Virtual Network Meeting

Tuesday 26 May 2020 - Tuesday 26 May 2020

The 28th NETLIPSE Network Meeting took place virtually last Tuesday May 26th from 10:00 to 12:00. Normally our Network Meetings are filled for two days with presentations, discussions, working sessions and breaks (lunches and dinners in which networking takes place). Now 2 hours and online via GotoMeeting.

Programme and presentations

In the preparation it soon became clear that the affiliated client organisations are experiencing the same challenges from the current situation. This led to the central theme ‘Managing large projects in a crisis situation’ and the following topics for the programme:

1. Dealing with contractors

  • Based on examples from the Storstrøm Bridge in Denmark and the Oosterweel project in Belgium
  • E.g. about delays: what is a consequence of COVID-19 and what not? Is there an emergency law for prepayments?
2.Opportunities during a crisis
  • Accelerating rail projects (England) and road and maintenance projects (Finland).
  • Greater public investment in infrastructure to boost the economy.
3. Creating a safe working environment and virtual communication
  • Experiences at Rijkswaterstaat and Autobahndirektion Südbayern.

[You can find the programme here]

There were six presenters from various countries who shared their interesting experiences, project challenges and examples in this crisis time. We would like to thank the presenters for their contributions!

Based on the three presentations was an interesting virtual discussion on e.g. how to stimulate contractors to limit the time impact as a result of the crisis, how different countries use the crisis as an opportunity to accelerate projects, if we will go ‘back to normal’ and the advantages and disadvantages of working from distance. Thank you to all participants for joining the meeting and for your contributions to the discussions.

Although a virtual meeting can’t replace all the networking benefits realised during a face-to-face meeting, we are happy to see that for shorter meetings, a virtual session can be an effective alternative. It was great to see you all, hopefully next time in real life again!

Evaluation
In order to improve our activities and collect ideas on interesting speakers and potential topics for discussion, all participants will receive a link to an Evaluation Form shortly. We will also investigate further if virtual topic sessions can be organised in the short term.

Photos
Unfortunately a virtual Network Meeting does not provide an interesting backdrop for photographs.  Except for a screen shot of some of the people participating. You can find [our group picture here].

Next Network Meeting
We hope to see you (again) at our next Network Meeting on November 9th-10th 2020. Altough the location has not been decided yet, you can already save the dates in your agenda!
