Last Saturday (21st of July) one of the projects that has been discussed during several NETLIPSE Network Meetings has been opened: the Amsterdam North/South metro line. The North/South line links the North of Amsterdam with the South station via the city centre. Passengers can now travel from north to south in just 15 minutes. The expectation is that daily 121.000 passengers will use the metro line.
The building of the metro line took more than 15 years and was a tough challenge. Not only due to technical issues (as Amsterdam is built on wooden stilts and the ground is soggy), but also due to the number of different parties involved, the many sub-projects and general social developments.

You can find more information about the metro line on the website of the city of Amsterdam (in Dutch) or in the one of the English articles on the website of International Railway Journal or the website of Global RailNews.
